Low calorie snacks: 30 ideas under 200 calories, with the numbers

30 low calorie snacks of 200 kcal or less, grouped under 100, 150 and 200 kcal, each with its grams and its calories, protein, carbs, fat and fiber computed from USDA data.

What counts as a low calorie snack on this list?

On this list, a low calorie snack has 200 kcal or less in one serving, and the page checks every snack against that ceiling. The lists that rank for low calorie snacks draw the line at 100, 150 or 200 calories: WebMD's "25 Super Snacks" stay at 100 or less, EatingWell's snack recipes and BBC Good Food's ideas at 200 or less, by their titles on the results page (checked October 31, 2026). This page takes the highest of the three and groups the snacks under the other two, so you can stop at the ceiling you use.

The ceiling sorts snacks; it is not an amount you need. A snack of 40 kcal is not better than one of 180: it is smaller, and the right size depends on your day, your hunger and what you eat around it.

Each snack is for one serving: the ingredients in grams, then one or two steps under its name below each table. Calories, protein, carbohydrate, fat and fiber are added up from those grams with the values per 100 g of USDA FoodData Central, SR Legacy, for the generic food, not a brand. Oil is counted where a snack uses it; salt, herbs and spices are not. Cherry tomatoes are counted with USDA's values for red ripe tomatoes, and popcorn is weighed popped. The weight column is the food you eat, without rind, pits or shells.

The IZeat healthy check, the definition the Recipes section uses for meals, asks for at least 20 g of protein and 80 g of vegetables, fruit or legumes in one serving. 1 of the 30 snacks passes it: raspberry protein shake. A snack of 200 kcal or less rarely holds 20 g of protein, so this is expected and says nothing against the snacks. Sodium, saturated fat and added sugar are not computed.

IZeat wrote these snacks and computed their figures from USDA values; creators' tested versions will replace them as they are published.

Which snacks have 100 calories or less?

These 15 snacks have 100 kcal or less per serving. Most are fruit or vegetables, alone or with a spoon of hummus, yogurt, cheese, an egg or tuna; the protein comes from the second food.

Which low calorie snacks give the most food for their calories?

The snacks with the most grams per 100 kcal are fruit and vegetables, which are mostly water: cucumber slices with lemon and salt (657 g), watermelon wedges (333 g) and jicama sticks with lime and chili (266 g). Nuts, cheese and dark chocolate are the opposite: a small weight carries the calories. People looking for "high volume" snacks compare this figure; the table ranks the snacks of this page by it. The foods themselves, compared per 100 g, will have their own page, high volume low calorie foods.

The 8 snacks on this page with the most grams of food per 100 kcal, from the weight of their ingredients and their computed calories.

Fruit and vegetables lead because they are mostly water; almonds come last, with 17 g per 100 kcal.

Weight is one thing you can compare, beside protein and fiber, which the group tables give. How full a snack leaves you varies from person to person and from day to day, and this page makes no promise about it.

What does "low calorie" mean on a packaged snack?

On a US package, "low calorie" is a claim with a legal definition: 40 calories or less per reference amount customarily consumed, and, for foods whose reference amount is 30 g or 2 tablespoons or less, also per 50 g (21 CFR 101.60, checked October 31, 2026). That is much lower than the 100 to 200 kcal the snack lists use, so most snacks on this page could not carry the claim; plain celery could, and the regulation gives "celery, a low calorie food" as its example.

  • Read the calories per serving and the serving size on the Nutrition Facts panel, then the servings per container: a bag can hold several servings.
  • Check the protein and the fiber, which the panel lists per serving, if they matter to you.
  • Check the added sugar, which the panel lists separately from the total sugar.
  • A 100-calorie pack fixes the portion; it says nothing about what the snack is made of.

This page names no brand: a packaged product's own label is the only figure for that product.

Which low calorie snacks have the most protein?

6 of the 30 snacks reach 10 g of protein: raspberry protein shake (23.9 g, 164 kcal), Greek yogurt with blueberries and honey (15.7 g, 132 kcal), chocolate Greek yogurt (15.2 g, 94 kcal), two hard-boiled eggs (12.6 g, 155 kcal), cottage cheese with cantaloupe (11 g, 99 kcal) and tuna on cucumber rounds (10.9 g, 61 kcal). Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, eggs and whey carry it. The high protein snacks list gathers snacks of 10 g of protein or more whatever their calories; snacks that keep the protein high and the calories low will have their own page, high protein low calorie snacks.

How do you count a snack in your day?

A snack counts like any meal: its calories and protein add to the day's total, from a list like this one or from the label. A snack of 200 kcal or less is one part of a day, not a target for it, and a day of very little food is not what this page suggests. How many calories you need is personal: the calorie calculator gives a reference from your age, size and activity. Meals of 500 kcal or less are on the low calorie meals list. This page sets no target.

IZeat is the five-star chef calorie tracker that suggests satisfying, great-tasting meals, so you enjoy every calorie you have left. It works inside ChatGPT, Claude or any other assistant: IZeat knows your numbers for the day, which foods fill you up and what you like.

After you connect your assistant, say the snack in one sentence. IZeat logs it and returns calories, protein, carbohydrate and fat for the day, with the source of each figure; with a target you chose, it shows what remains, without judging a high or a low day.

“Snack: 150 g of strawberries with 50 g of plain nonfat Greek yogurt. Log it and show my day.”

Watery vegetables and fruit: per 100 g, celery 14 kcal, cucumber 15 kcal and cherry tomatoes 18 kcal, from USDA data. On this page the snack with the fewest calories is cucumber slices with lemon and salt, 24 kcal. Fewer calories is not the goal of a snack: it is one part of your day.
