Per 100 g

Per 100 g is the reference amount most labels and every composition table use to state a food's calories and nutrients, so that any portion can be computed by scaling. IZeat's reference values are per-100 g figures scaled to the grams the customer said; the assistant does the multiplication and the reply shows the portion's figures next to the weight.

The rule of the record is grams and millilitres only, which is what makes per-100 g figures usable: 180 g of a food at 165 kcal per 100 g is about 297 kcal, and the weight said is kept next to the result. A label that gives per-serving figures only is scaled from the serving's weight when the panel states it. Liquids use per 100 ml the same way.

Per 100 g is the honest unit because it separates the food from the portion, and the portion is the part that goes wrong. A customer who learns to think in per-100 g figures reads any label in a second, and their record gets better for it. IZeat helps by always showing both: the amount eaten and the figures it produced, so the arithmetic can be checked in the reply.

Put it into practice: Logging a meal.
