Net carbs

Net carbs are a food's carbohydrate minus its fibre, and sometimes minus sugar alcohols, a figure used by low-carbohydrate diets and printed on some packaging rather than on official labels. IZeat records carbohydrate as the label or the table gives it and does not compute net carbs; a customer who tracks them can ask their assistant to reason the figure from the label, and the record keeps the printed carbohydrate.

Net carbs are a convention, not a nutrient: European labels already exclude fibre from carbohydrate, so a net figure there is often the label figure; American labels include fibre, so the subtraction changes the number. Because the definition moves by region and by brand, IZeat stores the carbohydrate line as printed and names its source, and leaves the arithmetic to the conversation.

A record that computed net carbs would have to decide which convention it follows, and it would be wrong for half of its customers' labels. IZeat's choice is the same as for every derived figure: keep the source, keep the printed number, and let the assistant do arithmetic the customer can check. The target a customer sets can be whatever they follow, in the grams they mean.
