Protein target

A protein target is the number of grams of protein a person aims to eat in a day, set alongside or instead of a calorie target. IZeat keeps a protein target as part of the customer's target, compares every day's protein to it, and tells the assistant how many grams are left so the customer can compose dinner against the remainder.

A target can name calories, protein, carbohydrate and fat, each one optional; at least one is set. It applies from a date the customer chose and stays in force until a new one replaces it, so past days keep the target that was theirs. Protein grams are summed from the items of the day, each with its source, and the difference target minus total is shown as a signed number, under or over written the same way.

A protein target is a useful one to watch through the day, because protein is what a deficit tends to squeeze first. It is also the one that most needs honest sources: a label's grams and an estimate's grams are not the same kind of number. IZeat shows both, marked, so a customer at 140 g of protein knows how much of it was weighed and how much was reasoned.
