Weekly average

A weekly average is the mean of the daily calorie totals over a week, the figure that smooths a high Saturday against a low Tuesday and says what the week actually was. IZeat's period summary gives the average per recorded day for any range, a week included, and says how many of the seven days have entries, so the average is never inflated by a day that was not logged.

The average divides the sum of the recorded days by their number, not by seven; an unlogged day is a gap, never a zero. The target in force is drawn next to it, and where the target changed inside the week the timeline shows the step. Weekly averages are the unit the period summary uses beyond a month, so a quarter reads as twelve or thirteen points.

A weekly average is kinder and more honest than a daily verdict: one high day inside a week that averaged on target is a week on target. It is also where a missing day does the most damage, because it hides in the average. IZeat's count of recorded days next to the figure is there so nobody mistakes five logged days for a week.

Put it into practice: Reading a period.
