Carbohydrate

A carbohydrate is the macronutrient made of sugars and starches that the body turns into glucose for energy, at about 4 kcal per gram. IZeat records the grams of carbohydrate in every item as the label or the table gives them, and shows the day's carbohydrate against the target when the customer set one.

Labels count carbohydrate differently by region: in the European Union the figure excludes fibre, in the United States it includes it as total carbohydrate. IZeat stores the figure as the source gives it and does not convert between conventions; when a customer wants a net figure, their assistant can reason it from the label's own lines, and the record keeps what was read.

Carbohydrate is where diets disagree most loudly, and IZeat has no side: it records the grams and compares them to a target the customer chose, whatever that target is. What it does insist on is the weight question for the foods that absorb water, rice, pasta, oats: 150 g of cooked rice is not 150 g of dry rice, and the difference in carbohydrate is close to a factor of three.

Put it into practice: Logging a meal.
