USDA FoodData Central

USDA FoodData Central is the United States Department of Agriculture's food composition database, the reference most English-language calorie figures for plain foods trace back to. IZeat's assistant values a weighed plain food from the standard tables it knows, and FoodData Central is where most of those figures descend from; the item is recorded as reference values.

FoodData Central holds several datasets: foundation foods measured in labs, a legacy standard reference, and branded products from labels. A reference value for cooked rice or raw chicken breast in almost any tracker descends from it. IZeat names the source on the item as reference rather than as the table's name, which is honest about how the figure reached the record. A table figure is a starting point the assistant can reason about, not a verdict: a plain food is looked up, a cooked one is asked about, and the reply says which happened.

The point of naming sources is that a customer can ask where a number came from and get an answer that is true, and "a standard composition table" is true today where "USDA" would be a claim IZeat cannot check per item. The rule holds whatever the table: the portion is the customer's, the density is the table's.
