Key takeaways
- Every dinner on this page passes the IZeat healthy check: at least 20 g of protein and at least 80 g of vegetables, fruit or legumes per serving, computed from its grams.
- The 30 dinners range from 303 to 601 kcal, 23.4 to 44 g of protein and 105 to 450 g of vegetables, fruit or legumes per serving.
- 8 of them take two steps, and 17 are at least half vegetables, fruit or legumes by weight.
- The Harvard Healthy Eating Plate fills half the plate with vegetables and fruit, a quarter with whole grains and a quarter with healthy protein; sodium, saturated fat and added sugar are not computed here.
- These are ideas to choose from; how much to eat at dinner depends on your day, and this page sets no target.
What makes a dinner healthy on this list?
On this list, a dinner is healthy when one serving passes the IZeat healthy check: at least 20 g of protein and at least 80 g of vegetables, fruit or legumes, both computed from its grams, and the page checks every recipe against it. Popular lists of healthy dinners, such as Food Network's 100 dinners in 40 minutes or less or Pinch of Yum's 36 fall dinners, give no number for "healthy"; the American Heart Association's recipes are described as lower in sodium, fat and sugar. The Harvard Healthy Eating Plate describes the plate instead: half vegetables and fruit, a quarter whole grains, a quarter healthy protein. All checked October 30, 2026.
The check turns that plate into two numbers you can verify. 80 g is what the NHS counts as one portion of fruit and vegetables; the NHS counts sweet potatoes but not potatoes, and the check follows it. Beans, chickpeas, lentils and edamame count as legumes; tofu is not counted. 20 g of protein is the floor the high protein meals list uses. By weight, 17 of the 30 dinners are at least half vegetables, fruit or legumes; weight is not the plate's area, so this is a guide, not Harvard's measure. Sodium, saturated fat and added sugar are not computed, so their limits are not checked.
Each recipe is for one serving: the ingredients in grams, then a few steps under its name below each table. Calories, protein, carbohydrate and fat are added up from those grams with the values per 100 g of USDA FoodData Central, SR Legacy, for the generic food, not a brand. Each ingredient names its state, raw, cooked or canned, because the figures differ. Cooking oil is counted where a recipe uses it; salt, herbs and spices are not. Vegetarian here means no meat or fish; parmesan and some other cheeses are made with animal rennet, so check the label if that matters to you.
IZeat wrote these recipes and computed their figures from USDA values; creators' tested versions will replace them as they are published.

How do you build a healthy dinner of your own?
Start from the protein food and the vegetables, then add the starch and the fat by weight. The same method made every dinner above.
- Pick a protein food and weigh it: 120 g of raw chicken breast (27 g of protein), raw salmon (24.5 g) or 150 g of firm tofu (25.9 g) reaches 20 g on its own; 150 g of cooked chickpeas (13.3 g) or lentils (13.5 g) needs a second protein food, such as Greek yogurt, eggs or cheese.
- Add at least 80 g of vegetables, fruit or legumes: broccoli, peppers, tomatoes, spinach or beans, cooked in the same pan or on the same tray.
- Choose the starch and its portion: brown rice, quinoa, pasta, tortillas or potatoes, or none when beans or lentils are already there.
- Weigh the fat: 10 g of olive oil adds 88 kcal and no protein, and cheese, avocado and nuts add many calories per gram.
The cooking fat guide explains how to count the oil, and the raw-or-cooked guide which weight to use.
How does a healthy dinner fit into your day?
A dinner is one part of a day. The 30 dinners here range from 303 to 601 kcal per serving; how many calories and how much protein suit you depends on your age, size and activity, and the calorie calculator gives a reference. This page sets no target.
IZeat is the five-star chef calorie tracker that suggests satisfying, great-tasting meals, so you enjoy every calorie you have left. It works inside ChatGPT, Claude or any other assistant: IZeat knows your numbers for the day, which foods fill you up and what you like.
After you connect your assistant, ask what to cook with what you have left for the day, then say what you ate in one sentence. IZeat logs the meal and returns calories, protein, carbohydrate and fat for the day, with the source of each figure.
“Dinner was the beef and lentil chili: 100 g of lean ground beef, 100 g of cooked lentils, 150 g of canned tomatoes, onion, pepper and 5 g of olive oil. Log it and show my day.”
Where are the dinner lists for a specific need?
Recipes with at least 20 g of protein for every meal of the day are on the high protein meals list, meals of 500 kcal or less on the low calorie meals list, and meals with 15 g of carbohydrate or less on the low carb recipes list. Lunches and breakfasts that pass the same check are on the healthy lunch ideas and healthy breakfast ideas lists. Dinners to cook once and keep for several days are on the meal prep ideas list, and the weekly meal plan guide shows how to plan a week with them. Dinner lists by need each get their own page in the Recipes section as they are published:
- Easy healthy dinner ideas, for evenings with little time.
- Healthy chicken recipes, for every cut and method.
- Healthy crockpot recipes, slow cooker batches of four servings, each passing the same check.

Each of the 30 dinners here passes it, from 303 to 601 kcal.
