Healthy crockpot recipes: 24 slow cooker meals with the numbers per serving

24 healthy crockpot recipes, chicken, turkey, beef, pork and vegetarian, each a batch of 4 servings with at least 20 g of protein and 80 g of vegetables, fruit or legumes per serving, figures computed from USDA data.

What makes a crockpot recipe healthy on this list?

On this list, a crockpot recipe is healthy when one serving passes the IZeat healthy check: at least 20 g of protein and at least 80 g of vegetables, fruit or legumes, both computed from its grams, and the page checks every recipe against it. The lists that rank for healthy crockpot recipes give no number: The Clean Eating Couple's roundup sorts about 80 recipes by chicken, turkey, beef, pork and vegetarian and describes them as heart healthy, paleo or low carb, and its FAQ says a crockpot is "not any healthier than cooking on the stove" (checked November 3, 2026). This page keeps that order, in four groups, and adds the numbers.

80 g is what the NHS counts as one portion of fruit and vegetables; the NHS counts sweet potatoes but not potatoes, and the check follows it. Beans, chickpeas, lentils and split peas count as legumes; dry lentils and split peas are counted by their dry weight, which under-counts them, since they take up water as they cook. 20 g of protein is the floor of the high protein meals list. Sodium, saturated fat and added sugar are not computed, so their limits are not checked; broth and canned beans vary a lot in salt, so check their labels if it matters to you.

A slow cooker cooks a batch, so each recipe is for 4 servings, written for a cooker of 4 to 6 quarts: the ingredients in grams for the whole pot, then a few steps under its name below each table. Calories, protein, carbohydrate and fat are added up from those grams with the values per 100 g of USDA FoodData Central, SR Legacy, for the generic food, not a brand, then divided by 4. Meat is weighed raw, dry lentils, split peas and barley dry, and the rice, pasta and tortillas served with a dish cooked. Salt, herbs and spices are not counted. The steps give no cooking time, because it depends on the cooker; the safety section says how to check that the food is done.

IZeat wrote these recipes and computed their figures from USDA values; creators' tested versions will replace them as they are published.

Which cuts of meat suit a healthy slow cooker meal?

Long, gentle cooking turns tough cuts tender, so a healthy crockpot meal does not need a fatty one. By USDA values per 100 g raw, lean beef chuck roast has 4.2 g of fat and lean pork shoulder 5.7 g, against 4.1 g for skinless chicken thigh and 8.3 g for 93% lean ground turkey. Those are the lean part of the cut: trim the visible fat before it goes in, or skim it off the top at the end.

How do you cook safely in a slow cooker?

The USDA's slow cooker advice, as Clemson Cooperative Extension gives it (checked November 3, 2026), comes down to a few steps:

  1. Thaw meat or poultry before it goes in: frozen meat may not heat fast enough to stop bacteria growing.
  2. Put the vegetables in first, at the bottom and around the sides, and the meat on top.
  3. Fill the cooker no less than half full and no more than two-thirds full.
  4. Keep the lid on, lifting it only to stir or check whether the food is done; when you can, start on the highest setting for the first hour, then turn it to low.
  5. Check with a food thermometer: the USDA's safe minimum temperatures are 165 °F for all poultry, ground turkey included, 160 °F for ground beef and pork, and 145 °F for whole cuts of beef and pork, with a 3-minute rest.
  6. Reheat leftovers on the stove or in the microwave, not in the slow cooker.

How do you count a crockpot meal in your day?

Divide the pot. Each recipe here is 4 servings, so a bowl is a quarter of the batch; the crockpot beef stew with potatoes and carrots is 645 g, 406 kcal and 46.4 g of protein per serving. If you serve more or less, weigh your bowl against the serving weight in the table. How many calories and how much protein suit you is personal: the calorie calculator gives a reference. This page sets no target.

IZeat is the five-star chef calorie tracker that suggests satisfying, great-tasting meals, so you enjoy every calorie you have left. It works inside ChatGPT, Claude or any other assistant: IZeat knows your numbers for the day, which foods fill you up and what you like.

After you connect your assistant, say what you ate in one sentence, with the share of the pot. IZeat logs the meal and returns calories, protein, carbohydrate and fat for the day, with the source of each figure.

“Dinner: a quarter of a crockpot beef stew made with 700 g of beef chuck roast, 400 g of potatoes, 300 g of carrot, 150 g of celery, 150 g of onion, 30 g of tomato paste, 700 g of beef broth and 150 g of green peas. Log it and show my day.”

Where are more healthy dinner ideas?

Dinners for one serving, cooked in a pan or on a tray, with the same check, are on the healthy dinner ideas list. Recipes with at least 20 g of protein for every meal of the day are on the high protein meals list, and dinners to cook once and keep for several days on the meal prep ideas list. High protein crockpot meals will have their own page.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions people type, each one sourced above.

Is cooking in a slow cooker healthy?

A slow cooker is not healthier than a stove or an oven in itself: what you put in it decides the calories, protein and fat. It makes some healthy habits easier, such as cooking lean cuts, beans and lentils with a lot of vegetables in one pot, and every recipe on this page shows its figures per serving.

What are the healthiest things to make in a crockpot?

Soups, chilis, stews and curries built on lean meat or pulses and vegetables: crockpot salsa chicken with black beans and corn (474 kcal, 46.1 g of protein per serving), crockpot turkey chili with kidney beans (371 kcal, 34.4 g of protein per serving), crockpot beef stew with potatoes and carrots (406 kcal, 46.4 g of protein per serving), slow cooker pulled pork with crunchy slaw (378 kcal, 43.4 g of protein per serving) and crockpot lentil soup with spinach (392 kcal, 25.4 g of protein per serving). Each passes the IZeat healthy check. The lightest here are slow cooker chicken and vegetable soup (295 kcal), crockpot turkey, sweet potato and kale stew (330 kcal) and slow cooker turkey meatballs in marinara with zucchini noodles (342 kcal); the most protein per serving comes from slow cooker pot roast with carrots and butternut squash (53.6 g), crockpot white chicken chili (49.2 g) and crockpot beef and broccoli with brown rice (47.3 g).

Can you put raw meat in a crockpot?

Yes. Raw meat and poultry cook safely in a slow cooker when they are thawed first, the cooker is half to two-thirds full and the lid stays on; check with a food thermometer that all poultry, ground turkey included, reaches 165 °F, ground beef and pork 160 °F and whole cuts of beef and pork 145 °F, the USDA's safe minimum temperatures.

Can I put frozen chicken in the crockpot?

The USDA's advice is to thaw meat and poultry before they go into a slow cooker, because frozen meat may not heat fast enough to keep bacteria from growing. Thaw the chicken before it goes in.

What is the difference between a slow cooker and a Crock-Pot?

Crock-Pot is a brand of slow cooker; crockpot is used for any slow cooker. The recipes here are written for a slow cooker of 4 to 6 quarts, an hour on high when you can and then low; choose the size the batch fills half to two-thirds.
